Breast Procedures That Follow Weight Loss Surgery

Some women who undergo weight loss surgery still have to go through a breast augmentation procedure or sometimes a breast lift. This is due to the fact that after having large amounts of fat removed from the body, it results in deformation of other parts which make them seem or look uneven. Sometimes, the breasts may seem too big for the body which is another reason why there is a need to undergo a boob job after getting weight loss surgery. But most of the time, it depends on the results of the weight loss surgery.

A boob job can be a breast reduction or a breast lift. It usually depends on a woman’s age or body type as aging breasts are also known to sag. A woman’s body type is significant as well since weight loss surgeries have a tendency to alter a body type after the procedure has been performed.

Breasts lifts are necessary because the skin’s elasticity is significantly lessened after a weight loss procedure. The skin becomes visibly thinner and there is flabby and excess skin that accumulates in different parts of the torso like on the side of the chest and the part between the shoulders and breasts. A breast lift helps restore the look of the breasts to make them seem younger and make the look and feel of the breasts more supple.

A breast lift is commonly called a mastopexy. Following weight loss surgery, there may be a need to remove excess skin found on the breast around the areola and even on the breast itself. This may cause some incisions to be made in parts of the breast. However, if it is possible to remove skin only in one area then fewer incisions will be made thus leaving a few scars.

Breast reductions or augmentations may be necessary after weight loss surgery because sometimes, the breasts appear flaccid even though they were once full. Breast implants are used to help the breasts restore their original volume.

Depending on the results of the weight loss surgery, the surgeon will decide whether to make the incision in the breast fold, underarm or around the areola. And for women who underwent a dramatic weight loss, the implant is placed under the breast muscles as opposed to the breast tissue to give it a more natural look.

Having breasts lifted or getting implants after a weight loss procedure may be necessary for the women who lost a significant amount of weight and whose breasts may look different after the procedure has been done. Though it can be an option for anyone who has undergone weight loss surgery, it is better suited to those whose appearances are significantly different.

There are many online resources which offer additional details about this subject. One good informational site is here.
